Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the effects of aerobic training, strength training and combined training for 12 weeks, in waist circumference, BMI, conicity index, the sum of skinfold thickness and body fat percentage in non-obese adult men. Therefore, randomized study clinical was conducted with intervention for 12 weeks. Material and Methods: Effectively participated in the study 46 subjects who were randomly divided into groups aerobic (AG), strength (SG), combined (ASG) and control (CG). Data were compared before and after the intervention by the Test t Student for paired samples (intra-group), for intergroup comparison it was used one-way ANOVA with post hoc of Tukey. It was used yet the effect size from Cohen's proposal. The significance level was set at p <0.05. Data were analyzed by the program SPSS 19.0. Significant differences were found between pre and post test for the variables BM, BMI, conicity index, ΣST and Fat% only in AG. Results: However, when compared to the CG, this difference was significant only in the variable Fat% compared to AG. There was not found significant difference for WC in any of the experimental groups or in the CG. Conclusion: Only aerobic training program was sufficient to induce significant improvements in variables BMI, conicity index, sum of skinfolds and body fat percentage. Only waist circumference did not change in none of groups. DESCRIPTORS Physical Exercise. Anthropometry. Sedentary Lifestyle.
