Abstract

Objective: to evaluate the impact of a workshop on breastfeeding for Community Health Agents. Method: This is a transversal, descriptive-exploratory study with a quantitative approach, carried out with two hundred and thirty-six Community Health Agents of the municipality of Caruaru -PE, which were evaluated before and after the workshop. Data were analyzed by statistical software SPSS, version 16.0, and the Pearson Chi-square statistical test was performed. In this study, we chose to work only with three sociodemographic data, as well as professional training, cross-referenced to six axes of knowledge outlines, worked and evaluated. Results: among the improved and learned outlines of knowledge, the greatest amount of knowledge verified in the pre-workshop was due to the knowledge that - there is no maternal breastfeeding - achieving a percentage of 74.5%. In the post-workshop, there was considerable learning about the use of stuck bra and vegetable sponge on the nipple should not be indicated to prepare the breast for breastfeeding, achieving a 56.4% increase when compared to the responses given in this axis before the workshop. Conclusion: it was possible to deconstruct certain ideas among professionals, noted by the increase in the average of hits after the second evaluation. However, the relevance of the creation and implementation of educational moments on the subject for this public is emphasized, to impact the adoption of more reliable practices / guidelines aimed at strengthening the support for breastfeeding.
