Introduction: Functionality has become a determining factor in the aging process, keeping in mind that the maintenance of activities is associated with healthy aging. objective: To analyze the prevalence and factors associated with functional disability in elderly residents in a community. Methodology: This is an epidemiological, cross-sectional, population-based study, nested a cohort of elderly people. Data were obtained through the compilation of validated instruments containing sociodemographic information, self - reported diseases, depressive symptomatology, level of physical activity, life habits, body mass index, and dependence / independence. The chi-square test (x2) was used to analyze the variables and the variables that obtained p <0.20 were included in a multiple linear regression model. Results: A total of 289 elderly subjects were surveyed and the prevalence of functional disability was 62.1%. After analysis of the multiple linear regression, the female gender (p <0.005), 80 years old or older (p <0.026), who had no schooling (p <0.000) and did not consume alcohol <0.038) were associated with this outcome. Conclusion: The prevalence of functional disability in elderly of Aiquara-BA was high and it is associated with the female sex, elderly people who are poorly educated and do not consume alcoholic beverages.
