Analysis of Medicine Package Inserts as Informative and Promotional Objects

Abstract

SUMMARY Objective: To evaluate the adequacy of “information to the patient” section in terms of form and content of the medical package insert from antimicrobials frequently prescribed in the clinic of internal medicine of a university hospital. Material and Methods: 45 package inserts had been selected in the Service of Hospital Pharmacy through the Information Center on Medicines (CIM) of the University Hospital Lauro Wanderley - UFPB. By means of a form, it was verified the presence of standard phrases and other information required on the RDC nº 140, that regulates the content of the medicine package inserts in Brazil. Results: In only one of the analyzed package inserts were verified all the standard quotes as well as all the information demanded on law. Drugs behaviors in super dosage and interactions had been itens found as more irregular amongst the analyzed package inserts. Conclusions: Absence of important information for the user on the medicine in the package inserts reduces its value as an educative material for the patient, apart of bringing basic information for its use.
