Epidemiological profile of Tuberculosis in Pelotas - Rio Grande do Sul – Brazil

Abstract

Objective: The objective of this work was trace the epidemiological profile of cases of tuberculosis in the city of Pelotas-RS, between the years 2001-2005, Material e Methods: Analysis of the RS tuberculosis database (SINAN/ MS), with a total of 1007 cases of tuberculosis, 213 in 2001, 185 in 2002, 210 in 2003, 203 in 2004, 180 in 2005. Results:There were majority events in the age group of 20-39 years, in white race and the group of 4-7 years of schooling completed. Most notifications were of new cases and clinical form predominant was pulmonary and the relation to coinfection HIV, the prevalence was higher among males in all the years studied. As for the situation of closure, found that the percentage of cure decreased during the period 2001 to 2005 and of deaths increased in the same period. Conclusions: Thus, it is considered appropriate to the planning of strategies that have as their primary objective, furthermore early detection of disease, monitoring of the individual patients, to obtain satisfactory results in the termination of treatment, allowing a better quality of life and reduction of mortality for tuberculosis in Brazil.
