Abstract

The MSDs and fibromyalgia are syndromes that affect large numbers of individuals with multiple etiologies and diagnostic complexity. In spite of common symptoms, these syndromes have quite different legal, preventive and therapeutic implications. It is proposed to study the relationship between MSDs and fibromyalgia among workers, regarding all aspects of concept, diagnosis, as well as to determine the incidence of MSDs among workers and the percentage of body areas affected by diseases. This is a review of scientific books and articles found in the databases: Pubmed, Medline, Lilacs and Scielo, besides theses and dissertations from “Portal Capes”. The consultation period in English and in Portuguese was between 1995 and 2009. It was observed clarity on differentiation of conceptual aspects, correlation of signs and symptoms present in both syndromes, as well as diagnostic need to be followed by preventive and therapeutic measures to guide physiotherapists’ and other health professionals’ work. It’s noticed the importance of an early and clear diagnosis when a worker reports some sign or symptom that may be future characterized as MSDs or fibromyalgia, once the primary goal is to improve and/or maintain these individuals’ health, despite the great concern about recovery expenses that the worker might generate for the pension industry.
