PREGNANCY-PUERPERAL CYCLE: OPPORTUNITIES FOR (ORAL) HEALTH IN THE FAMILY HEALTH STRATEGY

Abstract

Aim: This study aimed to understand the perceptions of pregnant regarding the implementation of conversation circles about dental prenatal care as a proposal to stimulate the debate between pregnant women and the Family Health Team (FHT). Methods: The action research was conceived in three phases: exploratory (interviews with pregnant women), planning and execution (intervention: conversation circles), and evaluation (focus group - FG). The interviews and the FG were recorded, transcribed, and interpreted using the thematic analysis. Results: The interviews revealed beliefs and doubts about pregnancy, childbirth, and care of newborn babies. The study identified that there is a clear recognition of the need to include oral health in themes addressed during the pregnancy-puerperal cycle. The pregnant women consider that the conversation circles were a powerful strategy, providing bonds, reflections, and approximation between the subjects involved. The method had the potential to act in favor of dialogue, understanding of reality, and new ways of construct health-promoting practices. Conclusion:The course of the action research evidenced the importance of development of contents and meanings for pregnant women, based on the critical-reflexive understanding of reality and the construction of collaborative practices to effectively promote health and life in the territories.
