Abstract

Objective: the study aimed to evaluate the health-related physical fitness (AFRS) of high school adolescents from two public schools in Piauí. Methodology: this is a descriptive exploratory research in a convenience sample consisted of 63 students, aged between 16 and 17 years, of which 34 were female and 28 were male. The variables Body Mass Index (BMI), Waist-to-Height Ratio (WHR), cardiorespiratory fitness (6-minute run/walk test), flexibility (sit-and-reach test), localized muscle resistance (abdominal test) were measured. Test procedures and classification were performed using the PROESP-BR¹ manual. Results: it was found that most of the sample was classified in the healthy zone (ZS) in terms of BMI (96.42% boys and 82.35 girls), waist/height ratio (92.85% boys and 94.11% girls) and flexibility (89.28% boys and 94.17% girls). The health risk zone (ZRS) obtained the majority of the sample in the RML (64.28% boys and 79.41% girls) and in cardiorespiratory resistance (53.57% boys and 94.11% girls). Conclusion: the evaluated students showed unsatisfactory results in cardiorespiratory endurance and localized muscular endurance. In this sense, the insertion of interventions in the school environment in order to reinforce the physical fitness related to the health of the students is recommended
