Objective: To define the difficulties experienced by nurses when caring for pediatric patients in pre and/or postoperative surgery to correct congenital heart disease. Methodology: Qualitative research of descriptive exploratory nature with a sample containing 18 nurses characterized through an online questionnaire divided into two parts. The first stage is composed of sociodemographic questions and the second stage consists of six open questions related to the proposed study theme. The questionnaire for data collection was attached on the Google platform, in the "Form" mode, described as Google Forms and sent via email to participants. The data obtained were submitted to thematic content analysis, as proposed by Minayo. Results: Analysing the participants' answers: response patterns were identified, classified into seven subcategories, and framed in three major categories. The first category covers the nurses' feelings and perceptions about the care of children submitted to the process of correction of congenital heart disease; the second category relates the main difficulties experienced by professionals during the period described, and the last one shows what strategies professionals use to overcome the difficulties faced in care practice. Conclusion: The study evidences the importance of permanent health education actions to keep professionals up to date and offer comprehensive and quality care to patients.
