A FEMALE WRITER FROM CEARÁ WITH AN ENAMOURED SOUL, BUT WHO WHO SUFFERED A LITERARY OSTRACISM

Abstract

This article discusses the literary production of female authors, studying the poetry of a female writer from Ceará who was ostracized over time by Brazilian historiography and literary canon: Ana Nogueira Batista. Its aim is to give visibility to the literary production of hers and to analyze three of her poems, highlighting their stylistic and literary aspects from an interpretative approach. To this end, we developed a methodology that consisted firstly of surveying the critical fortune of this poetess, then reading and discussing texts in order to enable us to interpret her poems. This way, our theoretical framework was based on the studies of Castro (2019), Schumaher (2000), Macedo (2014) and Barreira (1948), who provided us with important aspects of Ana Nogueira Batista’s life; we also dialogued with Bosi (2015), Del Priore (2013), Xavier (1998) and Pinheiro (2021), who helped us to discuss the complex reality of female authorship in the context of writing.
