Abstract

This article analyses the evolution of the formal Brazilian job creation (2000 to 2008) and data is used from Cadastro Geral de Empregados e Desempregados (CAGED — MTE) once the aim is to characterize and point out the real job creation balance along the period. Therefore, the use of a data base with job creation and dismiss was more appropriate than one of the job stocks, since the intention is to verify from a turn over information which type of jobs had more permanent profile. The main purpose of this paper is to examine the evolution of the Brazilian Labor Market. Therefore the aspects of the previous debate on short and long term formal job creation are considered. Our results reveal that the job creation dynamism attained with the vigorous economic performance since 2003 is precarious and selective, since the balance between demand and dismissal is for masculine gender, high-school graduate, 18 through 24 years of age, up to two minimum wage salary, on the service and commerce sector in small companies. Futhermore, it is possible to observe some moderate change trends among sectors as well as among Brazilian regions transforming job structure.
