Abstract

The spread of the new coronavirus has initiated a multidimensional crisis, of large extent, directly impacting the working class in the world and in Brazil. This article aims to examine the Brazilian working class socioeconomic situation during the pandemic, starting from its structural precariousness condition, resulting from the (subordinate and dependent) Brazilian capitalist development form, today impacted by the structural crisis of capital. To this end, we seek to capture some working class forms of being, showing the impacts caused by the pandemic. We emphasize that, as immediate effect of the current crisis, formal and informal jobs have decreased, but have not been accompanied by significant increase in unemployment, but rather by discouragement. In addition, we seek to show how much actions taken by the government have contributed to increase the work vulnerability situation. We conclude that the pandemic has made explicit the structural precariousness of working conditions in Brazil.
