Abstract

This article discusses women’s condition in society on the labor’s market perspective. It starts from the analysis of the sexual division of labor, which is considered as a central element that reproduces inequalities between men and women in capitalism, aware that the effects of this division on women do not occur homogeneously, which is why this study also includes the race factor in order to show that, even among women, there are significant differences. The information on labor market issues analyzed in the study derives from the Continuous National Household Sample Survey (PNAD-C) and the Annual Social Information Report (Rais), and they offer an understanding of the general national context and the specific framework of the municipality of Uberlândia-MG. The results showed that asymmetries’ reproduction in labor market persists, in terms of gender and race hierarchies, both in Brazil and in the municipality studied.
