Abstract

The expansion of the use of information technologies in the various sectors of the economy accompanied the emergence of work relationships based on the flexibility of the forms of hiring and organization of work, in view of that, the search for understanding of the meanings that such transformations operated in the world of work mobilized sectors of the Brazilian academy focused on the study of the concrete working and living conditions of workers in information technologies. This narrative review aims to analyse and systematize the knowledge produced from empirical research in conjunction with the social and economic transformations observed in the last 30 years. The corpus of analysis consists of 24 researches, including theses, dissertations, scientific articles, and complete works published in conference proceedings, from 1989 to 2017. The conclusions point to the need to expand studies around the flexible organization of work and its repercussions on the way of life of workers, especially for the health conditions observed in the sector.
