Abstract

The olive tree is known for its production of olive oil and table olives, native of the Mediterranean the species spread all over the world. In Brazil, the states of Minas Gerais and Rio Grande do Sul are the largest producers, however the cultivated area is still insufficient to reach the country's consumption. For the purpose of reduce import costs, it is essential to develop research that helps establish the culture in the country. The present study aimed to evaluate and modeling dimensional relations of olive in municipality Formigueiro, Rio Grande do Sul. Were measured dendrometric and treetop size variables assessed through descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analysis and fitting of regression models. Our results indicated a significant correlation between the following parameters: diameter and height of bifurcation, total height, treetop diameter, treetop ratio, height/diameter ratio, number of larger branches and number of branches small with diameter measured at 0.3 meter from the ground. The regression equations for the variables of bifurcation diameter, total height, treetop diameter, treetop ratio, height / diameter ratio presented good fit and precision. Regression modeling of the olive tree size characteristics allows the silvicultural activities to be carried out in the orchards.
