Automatic generation of a citation index for SciELO using its XML files
Abstract
The paper demonstrates the use of eXtensible Markup Language (XML) files from the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) for the creation of a citation database for its journals. The focus of this article is the description of the methodology used to obtain automatic statistical data from SciELO for the journals, as well as the XML files available. These files were interpreted and metadata of articles and references used in their production were automatically recorded in a database. The Public Health Collection was used to illustrate the application of the prototype. The paper suggests the disponibilization of the database created for each journal at its own site.Downloads
