PHYSICAL ACTIVITY, PERCEIVED HEALTH AND QUALITY OF LIFE OF ELDERLY

Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the level of perceived health, physical activity and quality of life of older people from the city of São José - SC. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 190 subjects selected by convenience, 92% female. Then, a questionnaire divided into 4 parts was used as instrument: a) personal information and economic strata, b) perception of health, c) physical activity, and d) quality of life. Data underwent descriptive statistics. Results: Most of the patients were considered active (46%), insufficiently active (43%), with regular (40%) and good (37%) health perception. Regarding the domains of quality of life, scores generally ranged between 61-72%, in which the social field was considered the lowest and environmental field the highest. In addition, perceived quality of life according to its facets resulted in the total score of 72.1 ± 6.6, ranging from 46.8 to 84.3%, being therefore considered good. Conclusion: The elderly had a good quality of life, what goes against the facets that match such aging period. DESCRIPTORS: Elderly. Health. Motor Activity. Quality of life.
