HIV: FACTORS INCREASING THE VULNERABILITY OF THE YOUNG FEMALE POPULATION
Abstract
Objective: To know the aspects related to the individual component of vulnerability, aiming to identify sexual and preventive practices of the young female population. Material and Methods: This was a descriptive survey conducted in the family health units in the municipality of Patos, PB. Sample size calculation for finite populations was performed, with = 0.05, consisting of 60 youths aged 15 and 19 years. Data were collected from May to August 2010 using a structured questionnaire. The variables were analyzed descriptively by means of absolute and relative frequencies and subjected to inferential analysis through Chi-square (χ2) association tests. Results: The young people who participated in this study were shown to be moderately susceptible to HIV, which was accentuated by the early onset of sexual behavior. Conclusion: It could be observed that the youth had a degree of knowledge appropriate to adopt preventive practices. In spite of that, some actions of a sexual nature were shown to go against such knowledge, like the early onset of sexual life. DESCRIPTORS: HIV. Vulnerability. Adolescents.Downloads
