RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE DENTIST AND DENTAL PROSTHESIS LABORATORY: WHO PLANS THE METALLIC FRAMEWORK OF PARTIAL REMOVABLE PROSTHESES?
Abstract
Objective: To know the responsible persons for the planning of metallic frameworks of PRP in the cities of Aracajú, SE, and Taubaté, SP, as well as to identify how work requests have been sent to the dental prosthesis laboratories (DPL). Methods: In this observational, descriptive and transversal study, the data were collected starting from an interview script, including twenty one objective questions about the laboratory; request; planning and foundry of metallic framework. The interviews were accomplished in 16 DPL by two researchers previously trained. Prior to the application of the questionnaire, the volunteers were instructed as the goals and methodology of the research and signed the informed consent term. Results: It was demonstrated that 88% of the metallic frameworks were planned by the DPL personnel, who were mostly technicians. In addition, 50% of the dentists did not prepare the patient’s mouth to receive the prosthesis, and did not send the casts articulated to the laboratories. Conclusion: It is imperious for dentists to become aware of the need to perform adequately the prosthetic planning, in order to provide a safe, satisfactory and comfortable oral rehabilitation to the patient.
