Abstract

Nowadays, due to a high number of violence and car accidents, multiple traumas are more frequent, and elbow joint deserves an especial attention, because it easily develops stiffness, which may substantially impair function of the upper limb. Objective: It is presented the use of joint mobilization for the treatment of a patient with multiple traumas in acute phase who underwent immobilization for a month after surgery for placement of osteosynthesis material. The patient underwent 15 physiotherapy sessions, twice a week, through thermotherapy, stretching, strengthening exercises, joint mobilizations and cryotherapy at the end of the session. Results: After completion of the sessions, the patient had a decrease in pain intensity and showed a clinical significant difference which allowed her to return to her functional activities. Conclusion: After data analysis, we found in this study the efficiency of the proposed treatment protocol. DESCRIPTORS: Multiple trauma. Elbow. Physical Therapy Specialty.
