Physiotherapeutic Approach to Patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: A Case Report
Abstract
Objective: To analyze the effect of physiotherapy and its benefits on the clinical outcome of lupus erythematosus. Material and Methods: This is a case report of a patient with systemic lupus erythematosus. The patient was followed at the premises of the Department of Clinical Physiotherapy, Federal University of Paraíba, from August to December 2011, in sessions lasting approximately one hour, twice a week. Results: The patient treated showed considerable improvement in the range of joint movement, edema, pain symptoms, and hence in quality of life. Conclusion: The physiotherapy resources used in this case report, such as general and respiratory kinesiotherapy, TENS, hydrotherapy, lymphatic drainage, gait coordination and balance exercises, among others, provided the patient with a favorable clinical evolution.
