Evaluation of Adhesion and Links to Health Services of Hypertensive Users Affected by Stroke in the Municipalities of Paraíba, Brazil

Abstract

Objectives: To evaluate the adhesion / links to health unit of hypertensive patients affected by stroke in the municipalities of João Pessoa and Campina Grande, PB, Brazil. Material and Methods: This was a longitudinal study with a sample of 40 subjects followed between the years 2009 and 2011. We used the Wilcoxon test to verify if there were differences between the medians of the dimensions of the items over the years. Results: Statistically significant differences were found as to the clarification by health professionals of doubts from hypertensive patients (p = 0.041), as well as if health professionals give enough time for these clarifications (p=0.031); stimulation by the health professional with regard to following the recommended treatment (p = 0.019); degree of satisfaction with the nursing staff (p = 0.039) and community health agent (p = 0.001). Conclusion: The main demand of this group refers to the training of professional staff, seeking proper dissemination of information related to hypertension and minimizing the limitations due to stroke.
