Abstract

Objective: To verify the predictive capacity of time of practice and satisfaction of psychological needs on the motivation of exercise practitioners women on the beach under the perspective of the self-determination theory. Material and Methods: were used two instruments: Scale of Satisfaction of psychological needs in the sport, and sports motivation scale in an exploratory and quantitative descriptive research, with a sample of 123 women aged between 18 and 65 years (M = 30,91 years and SD = ± 8,76) and average of continuous practice time 9,73 months on João Pessoa beaches. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics and structural equation modeling. The proposed model had the variable practice time like predictive factor of satisfaction of basic psychological needs (Perceptions of autonomy, competence and social relationships), this variable would act as a predictor of motivational intensity index and demotivation. Results: The results showed that the practice time predicted the satisfaction of psychological needs positive and significantly (β = 0.22; p = 0.02) the satisfaction of psychological needs predicted the intensity motivational index (β = 0, 44; p <0.001) and desmotivation (β = - 0.22 p <0.001). The model showed acceptable fit indices. Conclusion: Women who have more practice time of physical activity tend to feel more satisfied their psychological needs. Such satisfaction predicted the motivational intensity index positively and negatively motivation. DESCRIPTORS Exercise. Motivation. Psychological Needs. Women.
