Abstract

Objective: Evaluate the occurrence of physiological imbalance in resistance exercise practitioners of intermediate and advanced level during four weeks training with concentric failure (TFC). Material and Methods: Ten young men (22.6 ± 2.6 years), four of intermediate and six of advanced training protocol performed with four or five weeks respectively. Were eight exercises per session, with weight for eight to twelve repetition maximum (RM) in three series with one minute interval between series and exercises. Testing variability of RR intervals heart rate, mood states (POMS) and blood samples for analysis of Creatine kinase and malondialdehyde were made under the conditions pre training and weekly during the implementation of the training protocol. The data were compared by one-way ANOVA. Results: Neither group showed symptoms of overtraining after the TFC period, however, the intermediate group showed changes in the Autonomic Nervous Activity, the RR interval standard deviation increased compared to pre-intervention values in the second week training, and there was increased dimension POMS fatigue the third week. Creatine kinase and malondialdehyde did not increase compared to pre training. Conclusion: intermediate and advanced practitioners support four or five weeks of TFC unchanged at overtraining markers. DESCRIPTORS Overtraining. Concentric Failure. Resistance Exercise.
