RECEPTION FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF THE PROGRAM FOR IMPROVING ACCESS AND QUALITY OF PRIMARY CARE

Objective: To analyze the strategy of the reception in Primary Care in the city of Campina Grande, Paraíba, based on the external evaluation of the first cycle of the Program for Improving Access and Quality of PrimaryCare. Material and Methods: This wasa descriptive, exploratory, quantitative study, conducted between May and October 2012. The sample group was composed of higher education health professionals working in one of 92 Family Health Teams. A form, called Module II, filled out by the researcher was used for data collection. The data were double-typedand submitted to descriptive statistical analysis in SPSS 17.0. Results: According to the findings, 51.7% of the Primary CareUnits reported having “users’ reception”; 46.1% of the Family Health Teams reported performing the reception during the five days of the week. However, only 13.5% of themreported the existence of protocols with definition of therapeutic guidelines to accommodate spontaneous/urgent demand. A total of 48.3% of the family health teams reported carrying out a risk and vulnerability assessment during the users' reception, but only 22.5% of the professionals reported being able to perform this action. Conclusion: The reception strategy has been happening in the municipality under study punctually and still supported by the hegemonic/medical perspective. DESCRIPTORS: HealthEvaluation.
