Abstract

SUMMARY Intraventricular hemorrhage (ICV) is an outstanding cause of mortality and morbidity of very low weight newborns. Disastrous consequences may mostly occur if the diagnosis is made in a late stage. Several risk factors associated with ICH, such as low weight at birth and prematurity, have been identified. On the other hand, the survival of extremely low-weight newborns has increased significantly in the last decades. DESCRIPTORS Prematurity. Ultrasonography. Intraventricular hemorrhage.
