Introduction: The prevalence of vitamin D deficiency [25(OH)D] and its relationship with malaria is little known in the Amazon. Objectives: To evaluate serum levels of 25(OH)D in patients with malaria and their relationship with epidemiological data, nutritional status and vitamin D consumption. Methods: Analytical cross-sectional study in 123 patients with malaria and 122 in the control group with evaluation of epidemiological data, nutritional status, vitamin D consumption, sun exposure factors and laboratory aspects (parasitemia, liver and kidney function tests), from January/2018 to October/2019, in the municipality of Itaituba, Pará, Brazil . Results: The prevalence of vitamin D deficiency among patients with malaria (28,5%) and that control group (24,6%) was similar (p> 0,05), however, individuals with malaria and residents in gold mining anonymous levels lower than those without malaria also resident in gold mining (p< 0,01). The type of skin, time and time of sun exposure and use of sunscreen not reflected at the levels of 25(OH)D. Food intake of vitamin D (daily) was complementary for guests with malaria. Conclusion: It was observed that overweight/obesity and hypertriglyceridemia were risk factors and the duration of the disease (days) was a protective factor for hypovitaminosis D. Serum levels of TC, HDL, LDL were lower than the other control groups, influenced by parasitemia (P. vivax). The increase in TG is associated with the inverse form with the serum levels of 25(OH)D.Downloads
