EVALUATION OF THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF INSTITUTIONALIZED ELDERLY AFTER REHABILITATION WITH PARTIAL AND/OR COMPLETE REMOVABLE DENTURES

Abstract

Purpose: To evaluate the effect of prosthetic rehabilitation, total and partial, removable in a long-term home in southern Minas Gerais. Metodology: The study was of the pre and post intervention type using the Assessment of the impact of oral health on quality of life (OHIP-EDENT) and Visual analog scale (EVA). Results: Comparing the perception of the elderly before and after the intervention, a significant impact (P <0.05) of the new prostheses on oral health was observed regarding the improvement in chewing (14.3% - 71.4%); comfort to eat (28.6% - 78.6%) satisfaction with the smile and reduced food restriction for not being able to chew the food (14.3% - 57.1%). As for the psychosocial part, there was an improvement in stress due to problems with oral health (71.4% - 21.4%); embarrassment (50% - 7.1%); sadness (78.6% - 35.7%); avoid company (57.1% - 14.3%) and avoid going out (50% - 7.1%). There is also recognition on the part of the interviewees, that the old prostheses or the non-use of prostheses represents a problem in familiar life. Conclusion: The study concludes that prostheses use promote a favorable impact on the lives of their patients.
