Objective: To evaluate the degree of airway obstruction and its association with pulmonary hyperinflation in patients with COPD, as measured by peak inspiratory flow (PIF). Methodology: This is an analytical observational cross-sectional study, with a sample located for convenience, including patients of both sexes, treated at the pulmonology clinic of a public hospital in the city of João Pessoa - Paraíba. To assess the degrees of airway obstruction, the values obtained from spirometry were used and pulmonary hyperinflation was assessed by PIF. For the correlations, the Pearson Test was used and for the comparison of means the ANOVA Test. It was taken in built construction of 0.05. Results: A total sample of 40 trained patients, with a prevalence of elderly with a mean age of 65.7 ± 9.59 years old, mostly female, comprising 55% of the sample. In the total sample, 15 were classified as having mild obstruction, 11 moderate and 12 graves. Regarding an association between the degree of obstruction and the PIF, we can observe that there was no association between these variables, with a value of r = -0.80 and a value of p = 0.639. Conclusion: For the population studied, it was not possible to observe an association between the degree of airway obstruction and pulmonary hyperinflation, which occurred because they were not in exacerbation or after having performed physical exercise.
