Abstract

Objective: to identify evidence available in the literature regarding promising pharmaceutical preparations and nutritional supplements in the prevention of preeclampsia. Methods: A bibliographic survey was carried out on the MEDLINE, CINAHL and SCOPUS databases, using the descriptors “Preeclampsia”, “Pharmaceutical preparations” and “Dietary Supplements”. Studies published between 2010 and 2020 and written in Portuguese, English and Spanish were included, and those that did not answer the guiding question or were review articles were excluded. Literature revision: In the search, 517 articles were identified in PUBMED, 242 in CINAHL and 1,014 in SCOPUS. Considering the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 11 articles were selected, which show a prophylactic effect of vitamins, antioxidants, nitric oxide donor, folic acid, iron and probiotics. However, the distinct characteristics of the samples suggest that interventions that consider them may be more effective in preeclampsia prophylaxis. In conclusion, this review highlights the possibility of using relatively accessible and safe substances, however, an increase in the sample, as well as a better definition of the doses used, are indispensable to better consolidate the findings.
