Objective: To estimate the prevalence and investigate the factors associated with overweight in military police officers from the city of Salvador, Bahia. Methodology: An epidemiological, cross-sectional, exploratory study that used data from the medical control program of the Military Police of Bahia was performed. Data included a random sample of 360 clinical records of the members of the corporation. Excess weight was determined by BMI ≥ 25 kg/m², according to the World Health Organization classification. Results: There was a high prevalence of overweight 83.9%, surpassing national prevalence. Excess weight was statistically associated with age ≥ 38 years, (PR = 1.12; CI95% =1.02 – 1.23), male sex (PR = 1.22; CI95% =1.05 –1, 42), those who have the operational function (RP = 1.18; CI95% = 1.03 - 1.34), with length of service ≥ 15 years (RP = 1.17; CI95% = 1.08 - 1.28) and those who drank alcoholic beverages (PR = 1.10; CI95% = 1.01 – 1.20). Conclusion: These findings can support the creation of health programs aimed at health education, in particular nutritional education and physical education, with the objective of promoting improvements in the health and quality of life of these workers.
