Abstract

Objective: Characterizing the profile of graduates from the program of Family and Community Medicine Residency (RMFC) of Palmas-TO, as well as their perception over their own training. Methodology: This is an exploratory, descriptive, and cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach. A questionnaire was submitted to the 31 graduates who had completed the program by the year of 2018. Descriptive and inferential data analysis was performed using Pearson's chi-square test, with a significance level of 5%. Results: 77.4% of respondents were female and 51.6% were under the age of 30. The majority of respondents (51.8%) were currently working in Palmas - TO. The most important contributions of the program were in improving organization and safety of graduates’ work process (32.5%) and humanization and personal development (32.5%). Attending the program was unanimously considered to be essential to work in Primary Health Care (PHC) and to personal development, regardless of their current field of activity. Main motivations for choosing the specialty were the improvement of knowledge in extended clinic (33.3%), and the acquisition of a 10% bonus in a future residency program contest. Dissatisfaction was related to professional's devaluation and low salaries (75%).  The exercise of preceptorship was significantly related (p=0.001) to graduates who remained in the field of Family and Community Medicine (MFC). Overall evaluation of the program remained between good and excellent (93.6%). Conclusion: The RMFC of Palmas - TO contributes not only to increasing the supply of family doctors, but also to the improvement of their technical and personal competences, which is built through stronger application of PHC principles in their daily professional practices.
