ACCESS TO DRUG TREATMENT IN PRIMARY CARE IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF CAMPINA GRANDE / PB
Abstract
Objective: this article aims to analyze, from a case report of the city of Campina Grande / PB, how users’ access to drug treatment occurs in the Primary Health Care Services. Materials and methods: an observational study was conducted in Family Health Units by using tools such as Flow Analyzer and Pharmaceutical Assistance Form. Results: During the study period 5,887 requests for medicine in thirteen Health Units were evaluated. From data analysis were identified some of the limitations leading to inaccessibility to medicine, as follows: little responsibility of the team concerning the reasonable use of drugs, lack of communication with other partner health sectors, and resistance to discussing changes in the work process. It was also observed that user’s access difficulties to the service don’t necessarily occur due to team’s negligence, but it mostly occurs when the professionals mold the access to their availability. Conclusion: working in a multidisciplinary team with the inclusion of new actors, including the community, and sharing care responsibility can favor access and rational use of medicines, and thereby improve the health quality of the population.
