Abstract

In Brazil, the proportions of elderly as well as life expectancy have been increasing. The aging of population has aroused interest of researchers from different areas. Various studies on those trends highlight the issue of health, occupation of idle time, leisure and tourism activities and retirement, but researches on inclusion of elderly in the labor market are rare, and therefore have motivated this paper. Many older people remain in employment for personal or financial matters by applying their knowledge and experiences that need to be taken by employers. Thus, the purpose of this study was to present the participation of the elderly in the labor market through a literature review on the subject. The main results obtained have showed that the elderly are becoming more economically actives and can contribute positively to organizations through their intellectual capital.
