Resumo

The present study was achieved in one area of the middle Araguaia region called Javaés River basin and Formoso River sub-basin. This area is one extensive strip of land, whose epicentre has the Formoso River Project, destined to the rice culture. It was done apreliminary survey of the large mammals, a diagnosis of the actual situation andidentification of the main environment degradation factors. The deforestation, the fire use and the predatory hunt are the main threats to the mammals fauna of the region. The hunt species did not disappear through the years, but diminished considerably in quantity.
