ALGUMAS ESPÉCIES DE <i>Trachelomonas</i> Ehr. (EUGLENOPHYCEAE) E SUAS IMPLICAÇÕES PARA O TRATAMENTO DA ÁGUA

Resumo

This is our paper contributing to knowlegde about phycoflora found in water supplies in reservoirs of Pernambuco State (Brazil). In this paper we studied algae genera Trachelomonas Ehr. (Euglenophyceae) - at a Compensa's dam (in Uruçai - Pernambuco). We chose this genera because it is most predominate is this specific dam. It is this genera that: 1) turns the water red during its prolification period; 2) is still present in the distribuition system of water even after filtering; 3) causes a decrease in the water filters useful time of operation; 4) makes the water smell like grass. During the period from september 1975 until december 1976 we observed about 3,000 cells. Twenty taxons were identified. We know of no other studies about this specific subject in this region.
