IN DIALOGUE IN GENRES UALALAPI: BETWEEN THE SATIRE OF THE EPIC AND THE TRAGEDY IN NARRATIVE

Abstract

This article derives from the studies that we have been dealing with in Gender Theory. By placing the possibility of the satire of the epic or the inscription of tragedy in the narrative, the article discusses the dialogue of literary genres in Ualalapi, by Ungulani Ba Ka Khosa, as a narrative strategy that has been frequent in contemporary Mozambican fiction. The choice of work and theme is justified for two reasons: i) because it is the work of a writer whose writing has become one of our objects of analysis in the field of literary studies, in general, and in Mozambican literature, in particular, and, ii) because it is a work that seems to better reflect the dialogue of genres in a single text. This is a problematizing reflection, based on Gender Theories, focusing on the studies of HAUSER (1993), HEGEL (2001), REIS (2003), ROSENFELD (2006) and FROW (2007). Therefore, the character is taken as the central category of the analysis, focusing on the protagonist's actions and modes of characterization, based on semiotic analysis and literary hermeneutics.
