The AESTHETIC REPRESENTATION OF VIOLENCE IN HOMOEROTIC LITERATURE OF THE YAOI GENRE UNDER THE PSYCHOANALYTIC BIAS

Abstract

The present article aims to discuss the genesis of the aesthetic representation of violence in the Yaoi literary genre, based on Freud's reflections on homosexuality. It presents this genre and its taboos, establishing a dialogue between literature and psychoanalysis. For the development of this research, reference was mainly made to Freud's works such as Civilization and Its Discontents, new Introductory Lectures on Psychoanalysis and other texts; Three Essays on the Theory of Sexuality; Fragment of an Analysis of a Case of Hysteria (The Case of Dora), and other texts; The Economic Problem of Masochism (1924); as well as Elisabeth Roudinesco and Michael Plon's Dictionary of Psychoanalysis. Additionally, scholars who have addressed the topic and contributed to elucidate the issue were consulted. It was understood that the homoeroticism present in Yaoi was linked to problematic forms of sexual expression, perhaps as an attempt to break free from social and religious repression, giving free rein to various fantasies. It was also concluded that it is necessary to think beyond concepts since psychoanalysis is a method, not a religion with fixed dogmas. Therefore, it is important to respect the subjectivity of human experiences and let literature speak for itself without violating its autonomy.
