Abstract

In this article we seek to establish a theoretical base that allows us to examine if the reflux experienced by the brazilian trade unionism in the 1990s proved to be, over the 2000s, an inevitable decline, caused by structuraltransformations occurred in the capitalist system worldwide, or a crisis that can be overcome through thecreation of new union strategies and actions adapted to the new situation in Brazil and worldwide. First,we present the impacts of the trade union´s crisis on the quantitative indicators of the brazilian trade unionmovement; as well as the strategic changes occurred in the action of the Central Única dos Trabalhadoresand the ForçaSindical facing the 1990s changes. In the second part, we present some of the existing viewsabout the continuity and the intensity of the trade union´s crisis throughout the 2000s.
