Abstract

IT companies are born flexible, decentralized and structured in the form of projects, hence their representation to understand the new formats that work currently assumes. Managers of IT companies embody the new ideal of work and worker. The aim of this study is to understand the activity of meaning and subjectivity construction of these actors on the issues related to flexibility in projectized labor. Our argument is that the two aspects of flexibility — the positive and negative — are combined in shaping the work and experiences of IT managers. Characteristics of flexibility in its positive aspect are accompanied by consequences, especially in terms of construction of meaning and subjectivity of the actor, of the flexibility that is associated with precarisation. To demonstrate this argument, the flexibility will be examined in three dimensions: i) management of the company, ii) work organization and iii) working relationships.
