Abstract

This paper search for evidences which characterize the presence of unemployment hysteresis of the Metropolitan Region of Salvador. The hypotesis of hysteresis admitsthat the probability of an unemployed person to change this condition dirninishesas the duration of the unemployment increases. A person without job loseshis hability and proficiency so his chances of fiding another job diminishes due the segmentation of labor market, which occurs because of the presence of insidersanel/or payment of efficiency wages. The results provide a evidence of a stronghysteresis in ali unemployment levels that have been analysed.
