Abstract

Work relations have been experiencing significant changes during the last decades due to flexibilization of labor laws. Sunday and holiday work and extensions ofworking hours are results of this flexibilization. This study analyses the impact offree schedule for the commerce sector on the fema\e worker and her family and theimpact that the time for economic reproduction has over time for social reproductionof her families (in the case of São José, Great Florianópolis, SC). The literaturereview on the usage of time in capitalism emphasizes the role of women andassesses their evolution and achievements with respect to the reduction of workinghours and the decision on opening shops on Sundays and holidays. The data al\owsus to say that the free schedule produce negative effects on the lives of the females'workers and their families, since they are under a double commitment scheme,professional and domestic life, reinforced by the work during weekends. The workon Sundays and holidays - stimulated by the schedule o y relationships of the female worker as well as it bring aboutsignificant health troubles reducing their quality of life .
