Abstract

This paper analyzes the impacts of changes in the structure of occupations and income distribution on the growth of the agricultural income in Brazil in the 2000s. Specifically, it evaluates how changes in the forms of insertion in the labor market, in the industry structure, and especially in the regional distribution of agricultural occupations affected the dynamics of agricultural incomes. Firstly, results highlight, on the one hand, the intensification of the wage employment in the most dynamic areas, and, on the other hand, the growth of the production for self-consumption in less developed regions. Second, the papers stresses that the expressive growth in the average income was largely determined by the dynamics of the income of self-employed workers, as well as important changes observed in the regional composition of the agricultural occupations.
