Abstract

In Brazil there are currently more than five million children and adolescents aged 5 to 17 years, performing some work activity. Noting this reality, the major concern of the research argue that the issue is the possible existence of a vicious circle: child labor, unemployment and poverty are feeding. Thus, the aim of this study was to determine whether the inclusion of women in early labor condemned them to continue their state of poverty. As such, there is use of a probit model applied to data from the National Household Sample Survey (PNAD) of 2009. Results showed that the younger the age of entering the labor market, the greater the chances of admission and / or stay in poverty. As a result, it was suggested maintenance and / or encouragement of public policies and initiatives that aim at combating child labor in Brazilian women.
