Abstract

The main goal of this study is to determine the quality of the formal employment in the coffee cultivation in the mesoregions of the State of Minas Gerais for the year 2009, taking into account the following indicators: turnover, job permanence, age range, level of schooling and salary concentration. In order to do that, it was measured the IQEF from the average of these indicators considered. The data were gathered from the Annual List of Social Information (RAIS) and from the General Employee and Unemployed Database (CAGED) of the Ministry of Work and Employment (MTE). The results reveal that the Triângulo Mineiro/Alto Paranaíba exhibited better performance of the IQEF, which can be explained by the fact that this mesoregion stood out with the highest value in the level of schooling and salary concentration indicators. On the other hand, the worst performance was observed in the South/Southwest of the State of Minas Gerais, a fact that is associated to the assumption that the indicators relative to the age range and the level of schooling exhibited the lowest value in this mesoregion.
