Abstract

With the economic crisisoriginated in the 1980s and 1990s, many cooperatives were created in order tosave jobs in an environment unfavorable for those seeking an occupation. Thisarticle[1]discusses the obstacles faced by workers who decide to form a cooperative fromthe recovery of a plant in a state of bankruptcy. Despite obtaining the supportnecessary from the union and from cooperative development institutions, theyface numerous adversities and conflicts, including the issue of unionrepresentation, a situation that seems to have some dysfunction betweendiscourse and practice.[1] This article is a revised andupdated version of the paper presented at the IV International Gathering “Theworkers' Economy” - Alternatives of self-management and labor vis-à-vis theglobal economic crisis, held in João Pessoa / PB.
