Abstract

Since the 1990s ,the process of trade liberalization , the Brazilian economy has undergoneprofound structural and cyclical changes that strongly impacted the domesticindustry , especially in sectors / work intensive , of which the textile . Inthis article, we investigate the creation and destruction of jobs in thetextile industry in the Northeast, taking into account the profile of theworkforce and turnover. Data from the Annual Report of Social Information(RAIS) and the General Register of the Employed and Unemployed (CAGED) of theMinistry of Labor and Employment (MTE) show that the Northeast was the regionthat had lower rates of both creation and destruction jobs in this sector. Thatregion is the third that employs more labor in domestic textile industry, afact that has been growing, relying on government incentives and low value oflabor. It is evident that these posts are occupied mostly by the hand of femalelabor and the age groups that most occupy the textile industry are between 30to 39 years. The number of workers who leave jobs with less than one year isunchanged at 32 %, this turnover can be explained by poor working conditionsand the low wages.
