Abstract

The objective of this paper is to present the evolution of indicators of decent work in the Brazilian economy during the years of the Lula government. Decent work is composed of three dimensions (employment opportunities, social security and social dialogue). We studied the extent of decent work through examination of selected indicators. It was found that during the study period the dimensions of decent work extended to a larger set of the working population. The degree of formality of occupations and increased social dialogue helped in promoting decent work. However predominant portion of the working population is exposed to insecure and poorly paid occupations.
