POLICIES OF VOCATIONAL QUALIFICATION IN ENGLAND: DEVICES OF RECOGNITION OF WORK-BASED KNOWLEDGE

Abstract

This article aims to present and analyse the devices of vocational certification that enable the recognition of knowledge constructed by the subjects during their work experience implemented by the British Government. To this end, through bibliographical and documentary research, we will explore the economic, political and educational setting of England during the last two decades of the 20th century, raising issues that led to the setting of the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ), one of the first mechanisms for evaluation and certification of work-based knowledge developed worldwide, the modifications performed on this device until its extinction and replacement by the Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF) in 2008.
