Abstract

Since 1999, the ILO has been making efforts to promote the generation of “decent work”. Outside the “cream” of formal employment, there are workers in a precarious situation, which reinforces the need for an indication of the airs that involve decent employment. In this way, the general objective of this article is to verify the quality of the work among the metropolitan regions (RMs). By means of an index-synthesis of decent work, with methodology similar to the HDI. The microdata of the IBGE/PNAD of the years 2005 and 2014 were used in nine major metropolises in different regions of the country. The index-synthesis of final decent work is composed of three indices calculated according to the pillars of the concept: Employment, Rights and Fundamental Principles at Work and Social Security + Social Dialogue. Finally, the calculated index-synthesis revealed very low quality in the following RMs: from Belém, Fortaleza, Recife, Salvador and Rio de Janeiro.
